摘要：thedetectionofsuperparamagneticnanoparticlesusingnmrlogginghasthepotentialtoprovideenhancedcontrastinoilreservoirrockformations.thestabilityofthenanoparticlesiscriticalbecausethenmrrelaxivity(r2＝1/t2)isdependentontheparticlesize.hereweuseamoleculartheorytopredictandvalidateexperimentallythestabilityofcitricacid-coated/pegylatedironoxidenanoparticlesunderdifferentphconditions(ph5,7,9,11).thepredictedvalueforthecriticalsurfacecoveragerequiredtoproduceastericbarrierof5kbtforpegylatednanoparticles(mw2000)was0.078nm–2,whichislessthantheexperimentalvalueof0.143nm–2,implyingthatthenanoparticlesshouldbestableatallphvalues.dynamiclightscattering(dls)measurementsshowedthattheeffectivediameterdidnotincreaseatph7or9after30daysbutincreasedatph11.theshiftsinnmrrelaxivity(fromr2data)at2mhzagreedwellwiththechangesinhydrodynamicdiameterobtainedfromdlsdata,indicatingthattheaggregationbehaviorofthenanoparticlescanbeeasilyandquantitativelydetectedbynmr.theunexpectedaggregationatph11isduetothedesorptionofthesurfacecoating(citricacidorpeg)fromthenanoparticlesurfacenotaccountedforinthetheory.thisstudyshowsthatthestabilityofthenanoparticlescanbepredictedbythetheoryanddetectedbynmrquantitatively,whichsuggeststhenanoparticlestobeapossibleoil-fieldnanosensor.
